Brandon Slovak
Assistant Band Director
Brandon Slovak is currently in his twelfth year at Coppell ISD, and in his tenth year as Assistant Director at Coppell High School.
The Coppell HS Symphonic Band II (UIL Sub-Non Varsity A) under Mr. Slovak has received 9 continuous years of superior division ratings and has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Chicago Symphony Hall, Symphony Hall in Boston, and Central Hall Westminster in London, UK. The CHS Concert Band II (UIL Sub-Non Varsity C) under Mr. Slovak is one of the only “Fifth” bands in the state to perform at UIL competition and additionally receive superior division ratings in 2012 & 2015.
In sixteen years of teaching, Mr. Slovak has previously taught at Coppell MS North with Joey Ashbrook, where the North Honor Winds was honored with its first TMEA State Honor Band title in 2006. Mr. Slovak also taught with Maria Chadwell at McMath MS in Denton and in Abilene at Clack MS/Cooper HS cluster, with Alan Harkey.
Mr. Slovak is the founding teacher of Coppell High School’s AP Music Theory class, which is a grant member of Advanced Placement Strategies. Along with AP Music Theory, Symphonic Band II, and Concert Band II, Mr. Slovak currently assists the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band I, and the CHS9 Symphonic Band. He also assists with the Coppell HS Varsity Marching Band (recognized as being a perennial finalist at BOA regionals and UIL State Marching Contests) and the Coppell HS JV Marching Band.
Mr. Slovak received a Bachelors of Music Education from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2001 where he studied brass with Dr. Larry Griffin. He is a member of TMEA, TBA, Mu Phi Epsilon, and Kappa Delta Pi. He has taught on the brass and visual staffs of Forte and Memphis Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, 2008-2012, and was a member of the 1999 Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps from Toledo, Ohio.
